The Secret Letter (DIY Manifesto) (3/23)
3/25/23
Dear ...,
Sometimes I find that writing letters to other people helps me realize my own ideas/feelings/desires. I'm trying to draft a manifesto right now, but am feeling stuck. I think talking to you might help.
...
Earlier today you texted me that you will be in a ...-type band by age 24. That would be sick! I guess, my response to your text is: "why not do it now?" Because I, too, wanna do a band like that. I don't want to intrude on your vision, but we could do it ourselves, ya know?
My vision is you send me some guitar riffs/songs. I'll record some bass and send them back to you. One of us could program MIDI drums and we'll worry about the vocals. We can put together some demos. One day we can put the songs out on our bi-coastal record label. You handle the East Cost and I'll take the West. EZ.
I do come from the Fugazi school of thought that believes on person or group can do things themselves, without a major label looming over them. This belief makes me respond that way that I do when I hear you'll be in a certain band in two years. Why not now?
To me, ... is a model, it's a place to start. Yes, I am a big fan, but I do think it's something you/I are capable of doing. That's all, for now
